i know this might be lame, but I just got the card today and all i can say is it's pretty to look at. It really is pretty. I got the thermaltake 700W powersupply too but won't be able to install either until tonight. I'll post some thoughts later if anyone cares.

I'm curious to see if it will help any of my tearing issues with hulu and netflix. I can't wait to fire up some games too :)

The real bummer is i also ordered a scythe zipang cpu cooler and won't get that till next week so i get to rip the computer apart again next week oh well.

Question: should I use the HIS driver or the ATI driver?

Ok, i'm impressed but not because of the amazing gaming performance (which I haven't been able to test yet because America's Army sucks) but because flash no longer takes up 100% of my CPU power.

The version of the 4850 i got has the ATI stream technology and it's amazing; My cpu sits at 20% while running Hulu desktop; I think the card is handling processing flash on it's own; best of all my computer is silent now...SILENT.

Now, I still have the tearing issue in hulu and netflix (but someone mentioned that might be due to refresh rate; I have dell sw2309 23" 1080p monitor running at 1920x1080 at 60hz; I'll try playing with the refresh rate tonight (after I install windows 7).

i'm going to install windows 7 tonight and i'll give a few thoughts on how well the card works with the OS.

Over the next few days i'll also run it with Photoshop and other apps and report on how things go...This might be pointless, but it may help someone out later on if they're thinking about getting this card

Every ATi card ( X1900 series , HD 2000 series and above ) has that .

according to the HIS site, this isn't so

compare:

H485QS512P to H485QT512P

Both cards do not have stream only the latter one does.

So I installed windows 7 last night. ATI does have drivers for the 4850. I tried using Hulu desktop but i was less than impressed with the performance.

I think this actually network driver issue though (or just a flash issue; i'll play with the settings tonight).

As for windows 7 My network keeps dropping every few minutes. There are tons of posts on this issue with windows 7 but i digress.

In terms of video: Aero Effects are awesome and the computer runs perfectly. Very smooth.

Im going to work through my network issues tonight and will try to pay with photoshop to see what i see.

Ugh... it's the same bloody card , a HD 4850 IS a HD 4850 no matter who made it or what kind of an OC did they put on it or what custom cooler , they simply do not list all the features and technology stuff with all the cards , because they either forget or think that it's not important ( which it isn't , because EVERY card X1900 series and above supports it ) .
But fine , if you don't want to believe me , then don't , it still doesn't make me incorrect .

Dude, I love you. In an only slightly homosexual way.

He's right Malux, it's not the individual card but the card's chipset that has support for it. As far as I know every mainstream card in the hd2xxx, 3xxx, and 4xxx series has stream support, this includes all makes of 4850. If I remember correctly the drivers after 8.1 enabled full support.

Let us know how it does with photoshop man.

Hey guys,

no worries! I wasn't trying to be combative, I was responding with the info I had. Thanks for the education tho, that's why I dig these forums :)

By the way, I did all I could t get windows 7 up on my desktop. I turned off power saving on the card and tried everything I could think of (and read on all sorts of win 7 forums).

in the end, it seems the network disconnect issue is a very common one in the win 7 beta and RC.

I reinstalled windows xp pro for now. I also haven't been on because I installed the scythe zipang 2 CPU cooler. I have a pentium D 3.0Ghz and I did all I could to bring the temprature down to 53C. I know that's hot, but i'm not sure what more I could do (I have the paste on correctly and I tied back all my wires in the case.)

On the plus side, the computer is real quiet now. I can barely hear it over my typing (even at max load).
