x1600 V x800

Im having some difficulty in deciding between two cards...the x1600 pro 512MB or the x800 gto 256MB .. the problem i have is i like shiny sparkling things, and from what i been reading so far the the x800 doe'nt have HDR... the x1600 however seems to be the lower spec card, numbers don't mean much to me, but in the real world :ie oblivion, how would they compare??

any thoughts???

Ok uhmm id go with the X800 GTO because

a) It seems to have better core/memory than x1600 and when you oc it, it will demolish the x1600 for sure

b) You can unlock pipes on the X800 GTO making it 16 pipes instead of 12 on the x1600...together with a decent clock it will be running really good.

c) The x1600 has a crippled 128 memory bus and even the old 6800GS beats it which is jst pathetic i think while the x800GTO has 256 bus system.

Verdict: X800GTO all the way

HDR in oblivion is pretty taxing on the x1600s, I'm not so sure that you'd really get much out of it...check out these benchmark results:

Thanks guys for the quick reply, i thought that might be the case... its a shame though, ( on a friends Pc) playing HL: lost coast that sun and water effect made me want to jump in ..:) just so i can feel better though, it WILL look a lot better on the X800 right? what would it compare to on the bench mark tests that mike gave me the link to?

I'm not sure I know what you're asking, but the X800 can do the HDR in HL2, it just can't do it in Oblivion (Oblivion uses true HDR).

On those benchmarks, the X800 GTO would probably be closest to the 6800GS.
