A buddy of mine is running on a machine built about 4 yrs ago. I believe he has a P4 2ghz and 1 or 2 gigs of ram. He is currently running a 9800pro I gave him, using AGP (obviously). Should he upgrade the card (if so..any suggestions? He wants to spend less than $300) or just save up and build another system in the near future? I have already told him to save up and just build a new system (mobo, cpu, ram, v card), but want to hear what you guys think.

The reason for this request? He is not happy with his performance with GRAW. I will need to go and update his drivers and turn down some of his options and see if that helps first. He does not have computer smarts.

If he just wants to play a particular game a little better, he could upgrade to a 6800gt, or an x850xt and get significantly more performance.

It all comes down to his future plans, if he's going to be upgrading his system at some point anyways, might as well be now, but if he wants to keep the system around, he could easily pick up a newer video card and get more performance out of it.

Personally, I would wait a couple months until the new tech comes out. From what I tell, Conroe is supposed to be killer (Or Core duo...w/e it's called now).
