Many said it could not be done. Many said x1 series and older Dells do not work well together.

I didn't have much choice. The AGP Geforce4 MX420 was dying. The recommended card, 7600GS, is hard to find if you don't want to pay retail prices. I found the ATI x1650 PRo on Craig'sList and picked it up locally.

I spent many an hour trying to get this combination to work. ATI drivers did not work. I kept getting "try installing a standard vga driver first" error. GRRRRR!

OMEGA drivers worked where ATI catalyst do not. Quick and painless.

This just a message of hope for those with a Dell and the need to upgrade their video card.:D

Aye, Omega drivers seem to like being compatible. I wish they'd keep them going.

The last omega NV drivers for XP are at 169.21, and the last catalyst version is 7.12.

They didnt work for me Stubby, I really hoped it was going to end my pain, i guess my card is bad, or maybe there is something I must do first? Could you tell me the specifications of your PC? Did you had to install something else like BIOS update, vga driver of motherboard...? Which xp do you have or is it vista? Maybe I did something wrong at the omega drivers installation, which were the steps you did to install them cause there were pretty a lot of options to choose? Which are your Smartgart options now that yours is working? Is it at 8x or 4x; agp read on or off; fast write on or off? I tried changing them manually but it got worse. Please read my reply at my thread too, thanks.
