DirectX 11 to be announced this month.

Apparently Microsoft is going to broach the subject of DirectX 11 at their Gamefest 2008 conference in Seattle on July 22nd. Then in late August, Nvidia will talk about it at NVISION 08. Perhaps this is why Nvidia is not concerned with DirectX 10.1 at all...

Turn That Shit Up to 11!

Hilarious image.

So, I assume that they're going to build DX11 to be Windows 7-only... because... I mean, it's Microsoft.

10.1 is already out....what else do you want to know ?

besides we don't have a timeline yet for dx11
reminds me of the old days, dx4, dx5, dx6 dx7...all coming out fairly quickly after each other. been rather stable at dx9 for awhile

DX11?! Why is microsoft so hasty in releasing it?! I just hope that they make new drivers for the previous DX10 cards so that they may take advantage of it.

They aren't even properly utilizing DX10 yet... and already moving to DX11 .

Yeah I have to agree with that. There isn't a huge amount of DX10 titles yet.

But its not like its gonna matter though microsoft basically does whatever they want.

I do enjoy how the four or five people that liked Vista are being left in the dust.

...wait, no I don't. I'm one of them.

I really like Vista. There are little annoyances, but less than in XP - I guess that's just the nature of computing: things don't always work simply. Oh well.

Another thing about computers is that newer versions come out now and then. Sometimes it creates compatibility problems that can be expensive to upgrade your way out of (but it's a good excuse to buy something new!). But that doesn't bother me either because I'm all about progress.

Regarding DX10 becoming obsolete. I doubt it will happen for a few more years. At least until a while after Windows 7 comes out. Even then it will still probably have some life left.

...DX10 is almost pointless. The differences in appearance and performance of games in 9 v. 10 is minimal at best, surely not enough to justify paying to upgrade from XP to Vista.

Something tells me this is becuase there is some sort of graphical computation, or whatever that DX10 does not have room, or some reason can't handle. So whatever this AMAZING graphical effect is, I honestly think moving to a new Direct-X 11 is pointless, stupid silly mirocosoft.

I remember the jump from DX3 to DX8 in a span of about 3 years. At this time you will be VERY hard pressed to find any games for DX4,5 or 6. And even DX8 only lasted about a year and a half.

At this point we know nothing of DX11 so arging the merit, or lack there of, is useless. If I had to guess I would say that DX11 will help bring rendering to a native 64-bit. Or it could just be a cleanup of the buggy-ass code that DX10.1 failed to fix (think on the difference between DX8 and 9.0c). In any event, I welcome the change as a driver update will usually make a card compatable with the next iteration of DirectX.
