DailyTech has RV570 Details!

DailyTech has an article up about a pre-release version of a Radeon X1950 Pro aka RV570. The performance looks pretty good, but the most interesting part has to be the new internal CrossFire connector. Have a look:

So its an X1900GT but with an 80nm core? Why would they go to all the trouble to make an entirely new core just for this card? Only reason that comes to mind is to be the first to release an 80nm card..

I said it right in the news post IT HAS AN INTERNAL CROSSFIRE CONNECTOR. Track, I'm beginning to wonder if you pay attention to anything anyone says to you.

What do u base that on? I answer all of ur questions. I look at the card itself, this new ability to that eliminates the need for a Master card to be bought with the X1950PRO dosent seem to be as interesting as u make it out to be. I mean instead of a Master card, now its just another X1950PRO.

You asked why they made a new chip to have the same performance as an x1900gt, and the answer is, this is their first implementation of CrossFire, and because they're losing money on the X1900GT since it costs more to make an R580 chip than an RV570.`

Track no x1k series is 80nm and yes i agree with you that the x1950pro is just the old x1900gt so the performance won't be worth the cost(If it retails for around 300$ thats what i think). But the internal crossfire connecter should interesting since no one bought the x1900gt to crossfire with the x1900 crossfire edition master card(Who would be that stupid?).

So why didnt they just make this card instead of the X1900GT, or used the RV570 in the X1900GT? Seems stupid to make another card just because it costs less to make, because making 2 cards is going to cost more then 1. I dont know how many ppl would want to buy the X1950 PRO in CrossFire, wich is usually targeted at the enthusiest highest-end crowd, while the X1950 PRO isnt the highest-end card they can have and definetely not the one with the best performance. Again, seems like a bad idea.

Agreed. the x1900gt was being beaten out by an x1800xt until they stopped making it in order to force people to buy the x1900gt. I wonder will ati discontinue the x1900xt(new version) in order to force people to buy the x1950pro?

Track, that's exactly what they're going to do, but they have to sell all the x1900gt's they made first. So for a bit there will be both x1900gt's and x1950pro's, but eventually the x1900gt's will go away. And they didn't just name the new chip x1900gt to avoid confusion.

Hey Mike personally would you buy this card?
(I mean hypothetically) I would'nt it just's rebranded crap in my opinion.

So they made the X1900GT and then a few months later they just realised that they can make the same performing card using a less costing core and just decided to phase out their former card? And these are the companies u call "smart" and "maticulated"?

@david Depends on the pricing, the smaller core will probably allow a much smaller/quieter cooling solution, and performance should still be pretty good. So I would defniitely give it a serious look when it comes out.

@Track No they knew it all along, but they needed something to sell at the $250-$300 price point so they threw the X1900GT in there while they were working on getting RV570 done. If you look back, this has been done many times in the past and is pretty much a standard practice. My best piece of advice for you Track, stop assuming that everyone else is stupid just because you don't understand why they're doing what they're doing.
