ATI/AMD gets mega desperate, buys Radeon owners Steam games.

Shacknews has reported that as of right now, all Radeon owners can download Half-Life 2: Lost Coast and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch for free from Valve's Steam distribution system. Could this have anything to do with the lackluster launch of the HD 2900 XT. This "reporter" certainly thinks so.

Both of these games are kick ass, especially Half life 2 Deathmatch. Of course I just happen to be the number one HL2 DM player in my clan (mentok1982), so I am a tad biased. If any of you (Radeon owners or otherwise) think you have what it takes to pwnZ0r me, go ahead and jump on my clan's deathmatch server tonight. I'll learn you a thing or two.

EDIT: You don't have to be good at the game to join any of our servers. As long as there is room for you and you play by the rules (when you enter the server the rules are listed) you are welcome.

7:00PM Eastern: The server is empty, but I am going to get on and see if anyone joins me.

7:20PM Eastern: I can't get on the server. It is not responding. There is a Steam update today and it is messing up all my Vista Gadgets and my Instant Messageners. I have sent messages to the server admins, so hopefully the will fix it soon.

7:50PM Eastern: Well, we will have to try again later after Steam is working properly. Lots of people are having Steam realted issues after today's Steam update.

@anonymous I just edited the news post. You don't have to be good at the game to play. If there is room for you, please stop by. You will get a chance to hear what I sound like!

@Evil Incarnate. Don't worry... I fully intend to meet one of the guys from my favorite website on the field of battle. I just expect to die rather quickly.

what do you guys think: I have a 6600GT 128mb and an X700 pro 256mb, both are AGP. Currently the 6600 is installed and the X700 is just sitting around. First off, which is a better performer? All the reviews are of the 6600GT 256mb edition. Is it worth swapping out the drivers and the hardware for the games, should I not, or do i swap the X700 pro in permentantly?

The X700 Pro is faster , but if I were you I'd sell both and get a good card instead . What I'm saying is ... both suck .

Okay I'm going to be confused... but I'm the first anonymous to post. @anonymous #3, thats bull (no offense). The 6600 GT has more memory bandwidth, and faster shader and texture ops. Taken form the direct comparison from Anandtech: "From our initial inspection of the Radeon X700 Pro vs. the Geforce 6600 GT, it is very clear that the only available members of the X700 family don't pack the punch that they need to surpass the value offered by NVIDIA."

So yeah, @MrWizard6600, 6600 GT is a superior card. Thats why it and the 7600 GT were considered such phenomenal performers at their price point.
