It was simply an overclocked Radeon 9800PRO with 256MB of DDR1 instead of 256MB of DDR2 like with the 9800PRO 256. Even though it was manufactured under the same 150nm process as it predecessors, it was quite a feat for ATi being able to clock the chip so high.
