ATi Launches The X1650 XT

With this handicapped X1950 Pro, ATi finally has a decent offering at the $150 price point. Though it's kinda sad it took them 8 months to produce a card that can only just match the performance of a 7600 GT. Nevertheless it's a great bang for the buck. Catch all the specs and reviews here:

Will there be an agp version of this card or not?

I think there will be, since there are already AGP versions of the x1950 pro announced, and this is the same chip, and I think the same board layout.

Thank you. But will it be priced higher then the pci-e version like the 7600gt agp on newegg?

Most likely since an AGP version would require a bridge chip and a more complex board layout.

Maybe there is an AGP version to come but i doubt it, its not mentioned on ATi's website, all they mention is the X1650PRO. Even so the XT has a 128-bit memory interface which makes it as good as useless.

The X1650XT is not made by ATI, in the same sence that the 7900GTO is not made by nVidia, unless im wrong. The X1650XT sucks, we all know that nothing but the high-end cards of the X1K series suck. This is one of the things that i dont understand, i mean at some point they must have been like "wait, this card sucks", right? How can u call them smart?

@Track...the X1650XT does NOT suck. For the money it's a great performer...my only real complaint with the thing is its timing, it's matching the performance of a 7600GT nearly 8 months after the fact. And the X1650 XT is absolutely "Made By ATi". So what in the hell are you talking about?

I like it but Track has a point the 3-1 ratio which is really useless for me since i play fps games.

Track is a medical miracle. ATi approves every GPU release. Just like DX10 is only available with Vista.

The ATi x1650XT is a very different card than the x1600 or x1650 Pro. Why they still call it a "x1650" is suprising. better to call it a x1700, imho. In any case it is a decent midrange performer but it comes very late in the business cycle after the Nvidia 7600GS/GT are already established as THE midrange cards in PCIe and AGP.

I dont get it? WHY does this only match a 7600gt? Why cant it beat it with double the shaders?

Because it has only 8 ROPs and TMUs.

So texture units are way more important then shaders?
Monday, November 06, 2006 8:46:00 AM
No, but they cripple the card if there arent enough of them. A certain number of Texture Units can power a certain resolution, and a certain ammount of Shader Procesess can power a certain resolution. There are not enough Texture Units to power the resolution that would have been possible to play at if there were as many shader operations as texture units..
So u can only play at a really low resolution with this card.

Thank you track, But another question texture units are just for resolution or do they do something else?

Why do you say that the 1950pro is a handicapped card? I think that the 256 bit memory interface is a feature that only high end cards have. And the 3d mark scores that I see in this site are more than decent for it's money(at least for the time being).
