AMD delays the R600 launch, I die a little inside...

AMD has been deploying this heart shattering news via the telephone this morning. Guru3D and tech PowerUp! are here to break the bad news.

Here is a quote from tech PowerUp!:

"To better align our strategy with current market opportunities, we've changed the launch plan for R600. We are going to deliver a competitive configuration to market with an extremely attractive combination of performance, features and pricing, targeting a broader market segment in Q2. With the revised strategy, AMD will be better able to capitalize on the broad appeal of 3D graphics and DirectX 10, being driven in part by the growing popularity of Windows Vista™."

Handy marketing strategy. Give your competitor all the time in the world to saturate the market and make money of your tardiness, after stealing your share of the market. It's bad enough they still can't compete with the C2Ds after a year.

I think this is a good thing in the long run. From what I was hearing, availability was going to be way sketchy.

There comes a time where you need to draw a line in the sand and say "If its not ready by X, then better luck when i upgrade again"

Oh, well. Life goes on. Looks like I'll replace my Gainward GeForce 6800 GT with another nVidia product, later this year.

By the time they can even ship a single R600/x2800xtx, 8900GTX will be a better price/performance product. Like Track said, x1800XT and 7800GTX dilemma all over again -_-

Stinkin ATI - But I guess the only reason I wanted them to release their boards was so that the nVidia ones would drop in price. Dangit!!! Guess I'll have to wait on SLI

Hey guys i have a hypothetical question. What if Intel bought Ati right from Amd's Grasp. Would Intel put up with this Shit? Would they say "Enough is Enough! No more late launches!"
Like they did with Core 2. What ya think?
Would it have been better if Intel bought Ati?

Who says their workforce hasn't been scrambled and that ATI has the power to tell AMD "wait till its done".

Simply put, AMD is holding ATI back to release it with their true quad-core products. AMD is going to HURT from this one. What ATI is going to lose in market share will take them years to gain back, and that's providing that nVidia doesn't surpass thier tech level. In summary, this is a total BS move on the part of AMD execs trying to push theoretical benchmarks up.

well, look on the bright side: this could mean a good launch, none of this no-supply crap that seems to haunt ATI. Hopefully, ATI will also have WHQL certified drivers from the get-go, unlike some =_=. And also, lets all hope for drivers that really push the Shader model 4.0 benifets, instead of clinging to SM3.0

Wizard do you honestly think that this a strategic move on amd's part for WHQL? And what do you mean shader model 4.0 utilazation?
dx9 cant utilize it.

"Better things come to those who wait" I think there getting ready to pull an ace out from under there sleeve :)

when I upgrade, usually I upgrade my whole comp, I'm glad there putting things on hold, i rather a have a strong "total package upgrade" launch than a half ass... Give AMD some credit... Isn't like I'm going to be grabbing a copy of Vista right this moment anyways... but thats my 2 cents on it anyways...

This is really starting to look like a Sony PS3 scenario. Delay, delay, delay.
