AMD decides to "hook you up" for $20 less.

DigiTimes has reportinated that AMD has decided to cut the price of its upcoming HD 3850 and HD 3870 cards by one Andrew Jackson. The HD 3800 series will now be priced from $179-$239 instead of from $199-$259. I am guessing that the $179 price will be for the 256MB HD 3850 and the $239 will be the full on 512MB GDDR4 HD 3870. Where between $179 and $239 will the 512MB HD 3850 be priced? Perhaps $209?

A 20 dollar bill!

yeah the GT performs and sells like crazy. We will just see if AMD can do the same. I wonder how much the new cards can improve over the 2900 series. Maybe can hopefully compete with the GT.

The fact that they are dropping the price means that the cards can't compete with the 8800gt. However, availability of the gt has been somewhat lacking, so AMD might have an opportunity to grab some market share if they deliver these new cards in quantity.

the thing with amd will be like this...

u can pay 250 for an 8800gt and get 65fps or u can pay 175 for an ati card and still do about 40 fps. many ppl on tight budgets will go for teh amd(or nvidia) card priced withing there buying range.

Ah, this makes me feel much more at ease about having gotten an 8800 GT (which I love by the way). I needed a single slot card to fit into my case, and the 3870 is dual slot and still not quite as good. Yay 8800 GT!

Well.. good but not fantastic , as the review said . But with better drivers this card can recieve a decent boost , because the same thing happened with the HD 2900 XT .. when new drivers came out , it recieved quite a nice FPS boost and since the HD 38** cards are running on the same core , I suppose it'll be the same . Plus it's nice pricetag makes this card very attractive ( atleast it does to me ) .
