Some overclocked 7600GT actually perform slightly better than this card.

Since its the same as the 7600 GT, if u overclock it, it will be better. Same as if u overclock the 7600 GT.

Is this worth the upgrade from a 9800 AIW, I am putting the AWI in my son's computer and upgrading mine. Looking it the specs memory bandwith looks the same, and 9800 is 256 bit vs 1650xt 128 bit. I found it at the Egg for around 180 vs 1900 for 250, I hate to spend more than I have to since dx10 is coming and will be main stram in a year's time. I do video editing vegas and roxio. I don't game at all but want dual dvi, 2 dvi ports for Lcd's. It drive's me nuts that ATI/AMD charges so much more for AGP vs Pci-e boards, did they actually think we would just toss our AGP systems?
Thanks for any advice.

The X1650XT AGP costs more than its X1650XT PCI-e counterpart because the manufacturer has to add in the cost of a Rialto bridge chip which converts the PCI-e to AGP.

I am very pleased with this card. I upgraded my AGP system from a 9800 Pro 128 MB (a card that performed well for several years--no complaints) and can now max out F.E.A.R. on 1024 res, with smooth frame rates. After I installed the card, I had low expectations, b/c FEAR is such a system killer, so I thought it would just smooth out the frames a bit at my current detail levels, but didn't think I'd have max details and physics--yet I do. It was a very nice surprise; it's like playing a new game with all this new eye candy. Just FYI: My system is a Dell Dimension 4600 P4 2.8 Ghz with 1 GB RAM.

I want to clarify my post from Feb 26th, so as not to be misleading. With my x1650XT, when I instruct the game FEAR to auto-detect my system in order to set CPU and Video card details, it sets everything to maximum except for soft shadows (off), textures (Med), and volumetric lighting (Med). FSAA is off and AF is set at 4x. This was much better than my previous card, and the game looks and plays great. This card was a nice boost for my P4 system, and I'm pleased with it. (Incidentally, I purchased the PowerColor one from Newegg)

im having problems with FEAR and Oblivion... in fear, the game would lock up and turn off my monitor after a long time playing. i don't think i have heat issues since i play with my case open and a fan constantly blows directly to it. i have a 475w psu so i doubt power problems. im using catalyst 7.2 on a powercolor x1650 xt agp. on oblivion the game would do the same thing as fear but this time it happens right when your about to make your character. i have the latest patches installed for both games. it only happens on these two games. i don't even have problems running 3dmark06 which i know really pushes the card to the limit. any ideas?

any comments regarding ati's rialto brigde? i am guessing this is what's causing FEAR an Oblivion to freeze the computer... it is said that the rialto chip heats up to 85c. i think manufacturers should plan on putting heat solutions on the rialto chips.

It should be noted that there is a typo in this review, as the X1650XT and other X1650 cards do not come with RV570 memory, but rather RV560. This means that you can't flash the cards up to the x1950Pro levels and open up any other pipes. Currently the X1650 cards are the only ones to use the RV560 memory... so don't be fooled into thinking you can access those extra pipes just yet.
Quoting Mike: "In the X1650XT this chip is sometimes referred to RV560. But it is simply an RV570 with some pipelines disabled."
RV560 - 8 ROPs, RV570 - 12. However, my RV560 lists a 91nm process.
