The x1600PRO AGP is a nice card, I think it's a little faster than a 6600GT...and it's not too expensive! but the XT version is better

Just bought the x1600pro w/512 ram on board. Would like to put it into a shuttle sb65g2 to replace my 9800pro card. ATI website recommended this card for the step up, however I'm a little skittish about this card put onto a 220w power supply. Any ideas or anyone actually do this?

I think the review is decent. I don't have the X3 benchmark on dialup but I own X3. I run it at 1280-1024 everything maxed out do not notice any slowdown. I had a 9800se previously and unlocked it over clocked it to a 9800 . This card is twice as powerful as that card. My advice is to upgrade to this if you have anything below the X800.
This card is not a big enough jump for owners of 6600GT,X800 however. But it is priced at that level anyway...

i have a x850 xt in right now and want an x1600 pro because it has shader model 3 and on agp plus twice the memory will it actually perform better?

No, absolutely not. It will be much slower in fact.

I wanna buy this card but I dunno how much wattage I need for it, my comp has 350 watts, is this enough?

I'm running this card on a 300W PSU with 2 HD and 2 ROM devices. Sometimes (when not playing) rarely the screen flickers. But I haven't seen the comp crash or anything.

For those asking about wattage for this card; 350 watt is definately not enough. I'm shopping for mine over at tigerdirect.ca for the HIS version. For system requirements they state: 420 Watt ATX 2.0 or greater power supply required. Right now I have a regular 300W myself will be upgrading to a 450W.

The X1600Pro is definately one of the fastest AGP cards that supports Shader Mode 3.0, and I'm loving it. I bought it a few days ago to replace my X700Pro and I noticed a nice boost in performance. HDR no longer laggs the hell out of me in CS:S/HL2: Lost Coast. It plays HD content (720p) flawlessly. If you want performance, and don't want to spend alot.. get the X1600Pro. The 512MB doesn't do the card justice but it will do once games become more demanding. PS: I'm using the latest Catalyst 6.7 drivers and it's running good so far. Oddly, Lego Starwars and Game Test 3 for 3dMark05 crashes with the X1600Pro 512MB (AGP).

for the money the x1600 series underperforms. It is a mid-level card going up against the 7600. No contest. And yes, the 7600GS is AGP people. Along with the 6800GS both offer sm 3.0 no reason to stay with ATi

Do you mean the X1600 Pro w/512MB (AGP) VS. 7600 GS (AGP)?

well i think the X1600Pro , just by comparing what performance have other ppl gotten and what ive gotten myself.
this card runs Oblivion on HDR , large textures and 1024x768 , and it doesnt lag... it stutters coz i dont hve much ram but it goes away after i play for like 10 minutes :P

and the 512mb of vram is a waste. this card isn't powerful enough to utilize all of it.
a X850XT or 7800GT will benefit greatly from 512mb of vram , but not this card.
its just to trick ppl who dont know about computers that this card is very so super good that it can match the 7800GT or so.
but it doesnt. its a nice midend card though .

I just bought the card online for 100bucks. It's from sapphire and newegg.com had it 30 below what they usually charge. But when I installed it I got the three beeps and black screen. I'm afraid it's not gettiing enough power, so I bought a 550W (28amp on 12v) ... is that enough power?

actually 400W is enough for any card, unless you're going into SLi or CrossFire.
but answer to your question: yes it is enough.

This is a little late, but I ran into the black screen as well.

The problem was that I had win2k installed, and the card only supports XP.

After installing XP, the card performed well, and as was pointed out earlier, runs oblivion without a hitch.

I recently played the demo for Gothic 3, which does not look quite as good as Oblivion IMO, and the gamplay is stuttering. So keep this in mind. Perhaps it will be further optimized for the full release though...

I dont know what to chose;
ATI Radeon X1600 pro, 8x AGP, 512MB gddr2 Or ATI All-In-Wonder X800 XT, 8x AGP, 256MB DDR

If you compare the memory bandwidth of the x1600 pro and the x800 xt the x800 xt is much faster. Almost 3 times as fast. I would choose the x800 xt over the x1600 any day.

X1600 Pro has Shader Model 3 ( you need that to run Splinter Cell : Double Agent ) also u can get HDR with the X1600 Pro ,but u cant with the X800 XT , since it does NOT have shader model 3

Overall this is a poor card for performance/value. I go this card from an rma, but am returning it to get another x800 (as part of the rma) the x800 series is much better and quieter! Shader model 3 was not an issue for me plus the x1600 is not fast enough to do well with shader model 3 features. The x800 pro was 21% faster and up to 90% faster (almost 2x!) in some games fps.

I haven't had any issues with HDR performance... even in oblivion , I get playable frames at 1024x768 , HDR , large textures and sliders on medium or so . But compared to the 7600GT it's fairly slow :/ .
