Powerful GPU for 2009. Unfortunately, the $400 price tag is excessive for my wallet. Two 4870's in Crossfire will suffice for me until these get to sub $200 price range. ATI is the leader in performance to price ratio currently IMO.

In the Browse Cards page it says MSRP is $399 but
the 5870 is $379, and 5850 is $259 respectively.

Also process is 40nm.

excuse me Steve, but these new fresh cards have OpenGL 3.2, and shader model 5 in them, please correct it in both cards.

Also the performance of this card, measured in FLOPS, is 2,72 TFLOPS :)

Also memory should state 1200 it is quad pumped sorta speak or 4 transactions available per cycle so x4=4800mhz ddr equivalent.

As well framebuffer is 1024mb or 2048mb i.e they will be offering both 1gb and 2gb not sure with the 5850 though

I had to get 5.0 added to the drop down so that I could select it. It is fixed now.

OMG...I'VE BEEN A ENTHUSIAST OF NVIDIA BUT THIS TIME, ATI REALLY HAVE LAUNCHED A FINAL MONSTER WHO IS UNBEATABLE. I LOVE THE PRICE, IT'S SO TEMPTING. RECENTLY, I'M USING MAINBOARD WHICH SUPPORT INTEL CPU. IS IT COMPATIBLE WITH ATI GRAPHIC CARDS?

Yea this is quite the game changer. It impressive how they beat the GTX 295 for about half the price and with DX11 support. I am really interested what nvidia does this time... and if its nothing, it's gonna be ATI for my next video card LOL.

On a side note, we all need Nvidia because it is competition for ATI which they will want to keep prices low so hopefully Nvidia can put out.

Why does it say "notoriously loud" ?
As far as I know it's not much louder than say a HD 4890 .

And it'd be nice if you refrained from posting messages in full caps in the future .

I believe the difference between them may be the fan speed needed to keep it from overheating; you can get by with 50% (loud) on the 4k series, but I assume you'd need to go higher than that on the 5k series, since it looks like the same HSF on a significantly higher frequency product.

i wonder how come the ATI modern cards price is always cheaper than Nvidia..could it be any secret or anything hidden from this fact??? i never use ATI card but i'm afraid whether i should change to use ATI one day. Do you thing ATI HD 5870 can handle Crysis warhead easily?

federer129 - This things enough to play Crysis ( not to mention Warhead ) at 1920x1080 at Very High/Enthusiast , as long as you don't put riddiculous amounts of AA on it ( I don't see why you'd even need AA at that resolution though ) .
And they're cheaper , cause they're a step slower than the highend bits (ie HD 4870 vs GTX280) generally plus they're a LOT cheaper to make , so theres room to lower prices .
Anyhow , from what I've gathered from users of this card it is NOT loud .

to the admin of the site why the shader performance are not written if FLOPS , so we can compare better with the last 3-4 generations of GPUs.

At one time we had FLOPS listed but I think it was removed because we could not get it to calculate properly for all the different cards. Let me see if Mike can give more details.
