First ATI card I"ve seriously lusted after in a good while. I've just got a problem with that cooler they stuck on it. The reference cooler was much more impressive, and it seems like ATI could have gotten away with a single slot cooler on these anyway.

im curious how well the 1gb version wil lscale with higher resolutions compared to the 512 meg card....bus width should have its say...too

I reckon it'll be completely useless , unless you use two of these cards in CF , then there probably will be some difference at higher resolutions in more demanding games .

From what I see it just competes with the 8800GTS 512(priced about 60 cents more where I buy my graphics cards) or 9800GTX price and performance wise.

you think so because of the 128 bit bus? i wouldnt be so sure that only crossfire would benefit.increase the clocks and wonder , even on a single card :)..i heard rumours of this card for a while, they seem to be true(for once). nvidia is supposed to 'fight back' but itll take a good 3-4 months or more till a cheap killer comes around the block from the green side, i hear people say...

I think so because of the performance of a single card - 1GB on this thing is useless , unless you put it in CF , where the 1GB of vRAM would actually be used . For a single HD 4770 , 512MB is more than enough .
The only cards , that actually benefit from 1GB of vRAM are the HD 4890 and GTX280/258 and the dual GPU cards ( HD 4870 X2 and GTX295 , the latter being severely limited by the 892 MB of vRAM at high resolutions and massive amounts of AA ) .
The 128 bit memory bus is more than enough with GDDR5 memory .

Aye, it is indeed. I'm thinking it's memory setup is a fair part of how they keep it so nicely priced.

I got xfx but heared the Asus HD4770 is better. From what I've seen and heared sounds to be a good alrounder up with 250 gts but for 70 squid cool.

I could say that this is the most unique GPU in ATI and its a new thingy that released on 2009! the only R740 chip in Radeon 512mb is better than 1gb under performance and if u choose 1gb u just want to have quality...i know that radeon kicks a lot than GeForce...peace
