The Progenitor
All GX2s have at least 2 DL-DVI ports and a HDMI port.

Draws less power than a single HD 2900 XT... hahah .
Too bad it costs about 150 USD more than a HD 3870 X2 .

Kinda disappointed that this is only 256 bit, oh well. Maybe the GTX will be better but from the sound of it, it won't be by much.

Although HD 3870 X2 still pwns 9800 GX2 in FLOPS and pixel fill rate, 9800 GX2 make up for it's weakness with texture fill rate that is nearly 3 times better than HD 3870 X2

Luftwacko, give ATi time, this card will compete against the r700 not the r600 series. Iam not impressed by the 9800gx2

If you were around for the FX5 days you wouldn't say such things lol. We were all just as pissed at NV as we are at ATI now...

But I've decided I dont like this card. Granted, it does perform semi next gen. It uses a gimmick, a gimmick avaiable to us for many years now (granted in a much more inconvenient form). As seen above, at stock speeds it performs almost on par with two 8800GTS 512mbs in Sli. I'm sure it would get shit kicked by two Ultras or two GTX's. And This package is elegant in one respect: SLI all bundled up and driverd properly. Its about as elegant as a toilet plunger in many others: heat, power, and dvi support (no it does not support both running at the same time).

No thanks. I'll wait till may for my RV770 thank you very much. I want to play crysis on high, and It looks like Nvidia's 9 series wont do it, at least at any even remotely affordable cost. Hopefully a $400 RV770 will do it for me.

9800 GX2 just too strong for HD 3870 X2.outperform HD 3870 X2 almost 40%.In fact HD 3870 X2 struggle to stay in par with 8800 ultra.tomshardware reveal ati weaknesses

on average on test done by xtremesystems, it beats the X2 by like 40% and the ultra by 50%

on average, with early drivers.

Boy is this a waste of money!

You can buy two 8800 GTS's in SLi for 400$, so this costs 50% more than it performs. And you can add a better cooler and overclock a lot higher while not worrying about 90C temps.

Is buying an X38/P35 board really worth losing 200$?

If Quad-SLi works like it DIDN'T, the last time, then all I can say is that this will be a flop.. and I thought the 9800 GTX was the crappy card in this god-forsaken series.

Quad SLI works -- sort of.
It provides insane amount of horsepower in some aspects, so essentially at lower than 30" monitors it absolutely blows everything away. But the thing is no one will spend 1200$ on video cards alone if they dont already have something like a 30" monitor. On the 30" it struggles with random slow spikes due to the 256bit width and the 512 framebuffer. The 8800GTX in SLI (for less money) gives a much smoother game, with minimum framerates over double that of Quad SLI.
So yes, its insanely fast, but not where it needs to be.

Some people just do not know what they are talking about. The only game I have problems running 2560x1600 res is Crysis. My 9800gx2 eats all the other games for dinner and still has room left over. Far better choice then 2 8800gt's in SLI and cost me no more then what it would have to get an nForce board to run the 2 8800gt's in SLI.

I was under the impression that the 9 series nVidia cards would have DirectX 10.1, is this not the case?

No they do not, and dont worry about 10.1, its just a gimmick and means nothing. And Greg, 2 GT's in SLI is a better chouice if you have an SLI motherboard, as the cards stay cooler and its over 200$ less for a very slight drop in performance.

hi i`m from chile and i have a question can i run counter strike 1.6 with a 9800gx2 in sli all in high and in 2048x1536 because with my geforce 4 mx i can`t play with my cheats the game is so slow and my cheater friend that i can`t say the name (alejo) told me that i need a better video card is that right??
Wednesday, April 30, 2008 2:10:37 AM
roberto, compare your card to this card see the difference wtf man this card is like 600$ and ur shitty geforce 4 is like 10$ what the hell do u think. and plus 1.6 is like 7 years old look at crysis, this card was made to run crysis at max. god damn dumbass mexicants

Cards great, I see no reason to upgrade for a while. Especially since I installed a Koolance Water Block, it enables me to overclock this thing to insanse lvls. 800MHZ core 1.2GHZ mem, truly the single most powerful card out there.
Wednesday, December 10, 2008 10:45:54 PM
How come this card has more shader procesors (256 vs 240) and higher shader clock , and still has less GFLOPS than GTX280??? Can someone explain that ?
