both are lower then 8800GTX
9800 GTX 512MB (G92)
Texture Units: 56 (64)
8800 GTS 512MB (G92)
Texture Units: 64 (64)
so they downgraded the 8800GTS and made it into a 9800GTX?

A) This is for real and the 9800 GTX has some improved 3-Way-SLI capability, making it the best scaling card. Otherwise it wont sell when a 8800 GT OC'd is far cheaper and gets almost or the same results.
B) This is fake, and Expreview has a grudge of some sort vs nVidia and wants to kill the sort of "viral hype" that has been building up GPUs sales the past few months.
Also why would they re-use a G92 when they have G94 which performs better per sahder? I mean a 9600 GT has only 64 Shader Processors, and it performs at a level approaching a 8800GT. Not quite, but approaching. Lets just hope its fake. Otherwise this is a total nVidia sellout. (Although that does make the most business sense from a strictly sales perspective)

3870 = 496 GFLOPS
9800gtx = 432 GFLOPS?
This does not make sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Progenitor
I really don't think these specs are rumors. I trust Expreview and the other sites that have reported the exact same specs. If we are wrong, the specs will be changed. As soon as the first reviews go up we will know what the real specs are and we will make sure our data is correct. You can't buy a 9800 GTX right now anyway, so why are you so concerned about the specs right now?
Everything is going to be OK. Take a deep breath think about cuddly puppies, and relax. If you don't relax, I swear I will change it to say that it has 2GB of DDR1 running at 5,000MHz and 2 shader processors. I have the power, and I am crazy enough to do it.

@GPU expert I think you are talking about the 9800GX2. Ummm wrong card.
Where did you read that?

Chip Technical process : 65- nm
Producer: TSMC
More than one billion transistors (681 mln. in G80, on which is built GeForce 8800 GTX)
Support FP 64- bits
Support GPGPU
Performance is more than 1 TFLOPS (trillion of operations with the floating point per second, in 8800 GTX this value is equal to 520 GFLOPS)
512- bit memory system bus (384 bits in G80)
UP To 1024 mb memory GDDR4
Support directX 10.1 and OpenGL 3.0
eDRAM memory as buffer, that ensures free 4- multiple anti-Aliasing (used now in gaming consoles)
Built-in audio chip with HDMI
Improved algorithms AA and AF

@Evil Incarnate: lol, if you really change it to 2GB DDR @ 5GHz and 2 shader processors, Mike's gonna kill you...

The puppies have fixed all,
Post puppy specs plz
The Progenitor
Each puppy has 4 legs, a tail that can wag at up to 4 WPS (wags per second), 2 huge bright watery eyes, can yip and/or growl at up to 60 DBa, and can play at peak energy output for over 3 hours.
Evga is also offering a step-up program so that you can trade your puppy in for a newer model once your current puppy begins to show its age. This is a great deal because you don't have to feel guilty about throwing your old puppy into the trash, Evga will do it for you.

Unless theres something we don't know about this new 9series, sside from super-sli scaling.
I don't see everyones problem though. Give or take a set of texture units the specs are accurate so I dont see why everyone is in denial. The only alternative to believing pretty much 6 or 7 news sites is your own imagination.
Please also do research as this is 9800GTX NOT 9800GX2 with 2 cores.

Now consider that the 'picture' of the 9800 GTX that was posted on VR-Zone was quite obviously a photoshop (look at it in a picture editor, there are loads of areas where the black is rgb < 444 and loads where it's rgb = fff. Not a real pic by far).
I'm also disappointed that unlike usual instead of waiting for a manufacturer to put their card up, you've just gone with an 'ifs and buts' hardware site...
Also, GPU-Z is hardly ever right pre-release, remember the 8800 GT? Yeah, I thought so.

This just insane.

8800GTX = 518.0 GFLOPS and 9800GTX = 432.128 GFLOPS? WTF? this is a big fake sorry...

it is just an OC'd 8800 GTS, with a dual chip version 9900 GX2
so you can now all say you're sorry :P

for example: "800 series always ends with a "0" not a 2" (I'm assuming that you are talking about geforce 8800 series cards)
The 8800GT and GTS 512 use the G92 core.
Do some more research or state your point more clearly.
That said, I also think that the released info on this card is probably wrong. I don't think that Nvidia is so stupid that they would place a G92 in the 9800 when they could upgrade the G94. It's much more efficient.
You can't always believe what press says about a card, nor can you get all pissy at the admins for wanting to get SOME info about a new card out there.
So you can all stop pissing yourselves.
Why am I always so angry???

Just thought of that...
It's kind of a scary thought.

And
DX10.1 ... it's bloody pointless . Look up what the real difference
between DX10 and DX10.1 is . Anyways , ATi might have saved their own
hides by pricing their cards right .
I'd like to see if the 9800 GTX is any different from the 8800 GTS 512MB performance wise .
@-rk - G94 has 64 SPs , while the G92 has 128 . It would be downright idiotic to use the G94 .
guest
And yea 10.1 is stupid for games. More or less the only thing it does is force AA.

Buy their stock -- they've performed extremely well in the business aspect
guest
maybe it will cost at least 550$ for nothing new just some higher frequencies and i think the 9800gx2 will kick its ass
i think this card will have the same nvidia's green painting ... so boor

They COULD have made a new core for the 9800 also, but they didn't.

anyway.... ATI is not putting up enough competition so Nvidia doesn't have to try as hard. we all know this..

Wait and see what NVIDIA has in store with the GT200 and ATI with the R700. The real battle with start once those cards are out.
