Though the versions here have a 384MB framebuffer and cost only a few euros less than the 8800GT 256MB.

Hm...seems to already be on the NVIDIA official website, but it does not say that "-NEW!" thing on it. Interesting...

Also, the clock speeds are wrong. They should be 550/1375/800. I checked on NVIDIA's website.

9600 GT is much better.

Depends on game, more shader heavy games will favor the 8800GS more since it has more shader power than the 9600GT. In high resolutions, 9600GT should perform much better because of an extra 128MB framebuffer and the 256-bit memory bandwidth. For lower-res gamers (esp. 1280x1024), the 8800GS would be the better buy. It's also decently overclockable (my EN8800GS does 700/1000/1750 core/mem/shader). The 9600GT would be a better buy if you intend higher resolutions (but I would rather get an 8800GT than a 9600GT then).

Not really as this is cheaper than a 9600 GT.

But yet the fact that it is a piece of crap remains .

These GS chip where the cast-off from the production issue that the GT production that early on had issues. The GS was orginally mapped by Nvidia as an OEM offering for Acer, ZT, lenovo etc but they did want any part of it and Nvidia had so much stock they heavy handed XFX and EVGA to dump their production flops.

Cards made from failed chips ALWAYS SUCK.

FYI.

Now if you got one which miraculously was NOT a failed g92 and somehow figured out how to unlock the extra SPs which seem to be physically CUT you might have a card which is not made of pure failure.

I dont understand why everyonh is bashing on this. You can find these for 100$, or even less. You could make a decent gaming computer with cheap overclocked parts for 500$ that could play all the new games at medium-high with one of these.

This is MILES better than a 2600 XT which is the other 100$ card nowadays.

Considering the price, this card is great. Remember, although most models are apparently loud and have somewhat weak/strange amount of vram and memory bus, the price is still only little bit above $100. If I was on a tight budget, this or it's twin brother, the 9600GSO, would be ideal.

When overclocked it goes face to face with a 8800gt raw performance. Not so much with AA performance but still it's a potent card that can easily spit more fps than 9600gt far as raw frame rates. Only thing 9600gt does better than this card is AA because of bandwidth and more vram.

This card beats 9600gt in Crysis, and other shader heavier games and will increase performance lead over 9600gt as time goes by.

@MrX

Assuming it's bandwidth doesn't get in the way

38.4gb/s is pretty low

I have this card(Palit 8800 gs, 384 ram, 600/1700) for almost a year now and the only new game I played was Mass Effect wich worked at maximum settings.
It was the ideal solution when it appeared(like my previous card, the 5900xt)
